As Peter had arrived in Antioch, Paul came and confronted him not for his words but his actions. Earlier in Galatians Paul try to explain a very tough lesson for the Jews to learn. Identity should not be founded upon this world, instead be a witness and a representative of God. This basically means that people should live as Jesus had and let that be what they are known for not by the activities they do , where they live(d) and are from, the people they know, the stories they tell, and (this one in particular) the ethnicity they come from and the stereotypes , whether fortunate or unfortunate, that follow. Though tough as a lesson this was it was slowly accepted, but for some it was only accepted by their words, not their actions and in their heart.Jews felt that since the gentiles had not been guided by God then their morals would be inferior and in many cases would not be in community with them.
Galatians 3:28 Their in neither Jew nor Greek , there is neither slave nor free men, there is neither male nor female ; for you all are one in Christ Jesus. They were and we all the same, so we must love our neighbor as ourselves and treat one NO DIFFERENT than another. peter had most likely learned this with his time with Jesus or was revealed this as word of this teaching spread. On his own he spent time with Gentiles as well as others, however if other Jews that were stuck in their own ways (as it was the way of the Jews to separate themselves) were near their presence they wouldn't approach them in any way for fear of being segregated among the gentiles. Yet they carried on speaking of Jesus name and spreading what they had learned , and this hypocrisy continued till Paul approached Peter. What could be learned is that if anyone searches for a way to find righteous , then they must approach God and follow him , and to serve him , despite what other think or could do to him.Else they to would become a hypocrite.
